Food Allergy First Aid
If someone experiences a food allergy reaction, here’s what you should do:
- Stay calm and assess the situation.
- If mild symptoms (rash, itching), monitor and give antihistamines if prescribed.
- For severe reactions (difficulty breathing, swelling, dizziness), call emergency services immediately.
- Use an epinephrine auto-injector (EpiPen) if available and prescribed.
- Keep the person lying down and elevate legs if possible.
- Do not give food or drink if the person is having trouble swallowing.
- Stay with them until help arrives.
